The Sixties Diner in Aubière by Gautier
The Sixties Diner in Aubière near Clermont-Ferrand is, as you can imagine, a restaurant
on the theme of the American 60s.
The place is decorated
like a 60s fast food joint, in fact, when you
enter, you think that you are going to eat in the restaurant from Pulp
Fiction!
There is an appropriate
musical background and an impressive series of collectibles about the Sixties
which fills every corner of the dining room.
In terms of food, it
is high quality fast food made with fresh produce.
There are also some
more complex dishes which will satisfy even the most demanding customers.
The fajitas and the
burgers are absolutely excellent.
The waiters smile
spontaneously and are dressed in appropriate garb.
One does not have to
wait too long to get served.
The only downside is
that the prices are a bit high, but you are paying for the ambiance too…
So, if the Sixties is
your thing, you now know where you can now go for dinner!
My mark: 16/20
L'Ecailler in Ile d'Oleron by Amaury
If you want to
(re)discover the real flavours of seafood, you have to go to L’Ecailler.
It is located
in a beautiful harbour in Ile d’Oléron on the French Atlantic coast.
There is a
beautiful view from the restaurant.
The welcome is
very friendly and there is a very relaxed atmosphere, perfect for the holidays.
The customers
are ordinary families out to enjoy themselves.
The decor is
not very original but it is nonetheless pleasant because it evokes the sea.
The restaurant
is very clean.
Service is
very fast and the waiters are very pleasant with the customers.
The
presentation of the food is a little perfunctory but that does not take
anything away from its quality.
The tap water and
the bread are very good too, and there is more than enough to eat.
You do not even have to pay a lot for your feast, so go to L’Ecailler!
Le Soubrany in Riom by François
Le
Soubrany is a
quiet, charming, restaurant in Riom near the Town Hall.
It is one
of the few good restaurants in Riom.
The decor
is modern.
It has a
homely atmosphere and the owner, who waits on the tables, is very friendly.
The service
is quick because the restaurant only seats thirty at most.
A typical
dish is the local truffade, made of potato and cheese.
You should
try the large plate with four or five different foods, all delicious.
Because it
is stuck out in Riom, Le Soubrany does not get many customers, which is
a shame.
I recommend therefore that you go to it without furter delay!
Pinocchio in Riom by Emma, Margaux & Flora
This pizzeria is quiet and
pleasant.
It is always spotless.
We love the Italian décor which is a
little kitsch.
The tables are not too close together.
The waiters are pleasant and the service
is efficient.
The names of the dishes are elegant and
subtle but the actual dishes are somewhat basic in appearance, which is a
little disappointing.
The food is good and you can’t complain
about the quantity.
Generally, one eats well and
it is not too expensive.
The King's Head in Guildford (England) by Marie
The King’s Head is a family pub in Guildford, England, that does great grub.
When you enter the pub, you fall into an Alice in Wonderland world.
Once you get over your amazement, you choose your table, a very friendly waitress takes your order, and you wait for the arrival of your dishes.
The prices are affordable, between £10 and £14 for a main course.
There is no tap water, so you have to order (soft) drinks.
The wait is a bit long.
Here is the meal I recommend: homemade hamburger with chips and coleslaw, followed by chocolate ice-cream.
I give 14/20 for the King’s Head because it is clean, the meals are delicious, the atmosphere is great, but the service too slow.
Next time you go to England, be sure to go up to the King’s Head in Guildford!

A restaurant the name of which I cannot remember somewhere in Italy by Loïc
We chose this restaurant
because we were hungry.
It is in the shape of a
boat and has a private carpark.
The waiter was welcoming.
He was about 70 years old. He talked more in Italian than French.
We were the only clients
apart from three Russian men.
On the table there were
three forks, three knives and two silver spoons.
There was also a portrait
of Ernest Hemingway hanging on the wall.
There was a big entrée
with snails and a lot of seafood. It was delicious and there was a
lot of it.
Waiting time was
reasonable.
I chose pasta carbonara
for the main course. It was disgusting because it was very spicy;
everytime that I ate some I had to drink some water. The waiter got
angry with the cook because we were not able to finish our meal.
The
dessert was reasonably good. It was a White Lady.
The
bill came to 90€ per person, so 360€ in all...
I did not appreciate the
main course, and the meal was too expensive, but the entrée was
really good and the atmosphere was nice.
La Mangoune in Riom by Bérénice
La Mangoune is an
Auvergnat brasserie restaurant located in Riom, specializing in regional and traditional specialities.
The
first thing I noticed in this brasserie is the decoration. It is a
very good representation of a typical Auvergnat inn. It is this
design that gives all the charm to the place.
The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The waiters are professional and friendly,
they know their menu perfectly well and give good explanations of
each Auvergnat dish.
Everything
seems to be clean: the dining room,
the cutlery, and the restroom too.
The food arrives quickly,
it is hot and well presented, always with a smile.
La
Mangoune is principally famous for
Auvergnat specialities such as truffade,
potée auvergnate,
tripoux, aligot,
etc. and delicious cheese and charcuterie but there are a lot of
other foods on the menu: salads, pizza, meat, fish, various deserts and so
on. There is something for everyone, big portions or more
sophisticated dishes.
When I
went, I had truffade
and it was delicious and there was lots of it. As a dessert, I had a
chocolate pancake. It was a very satisfying meal.
Also,
the prices are reasonable.
I warmly
recommend La Mangoune.
My mark: 17 out of 20!
Le Panda de Chine in Clermont-Ferrand by Nicolas
Le Panda de Chine is
an Asian food restaurant in Clermont-Ferrand near Aubière. When you
arrive in the car park you feel happy. When you enter the restaurant, you
feel hungry. When you wait too long you feel dangerously hungry...
The best part of this
restaurant is the decoration, it's amazing. The walls are covered in
various Asian cultural artifacts, i.e. red lanterns, etc. It is all
rather beautiful.
There is a buffet with
lots of food, an assortment of things asiatic. The food is quite good but not fancy.
The tables are well
dressed.
It's a karaoke
restaurant. We found this idea very interesting, but in fact it is
not! It's fun for five minutes, but then it becomes irritating. After
twenty minutes we felt like leaving... The screaming kids made things
all the more uncomfortable. In the end, we sat outside, which is not
nice because the Panda de Chine is in the commercial zone of
Clermont, i.e. it's ugly. And when it’s hot weather, the smell outside is
unpleasant to say the least. Plus, to top it all, the bill was steep
considering the rather average quality of the food. I give just 12 out of
20, which takes into account the food, the decor, the atmosphere and
the price.
La Cigogne in Münster by Louis-Marie
La Cigogne in
Alsace is a restaurant with Alsacian specialities like sauerkraut or
flammekuche. It is located at n°4 Place du Marché in Münster. In
the restaurant, all the furniture is made of wood. The prices are
moderate and the food is good and plentiful. All the waiters are
friendly. The place is always very clean. It is quite a noisy place
because the room where you eat is not very far from the kitchens but
as compensation you get the nice smells from the kitchens! The name
of the restaurant comes from the fact that storks make their nests on
the restaurant. La Cigogne is a very good place to start your
discovery of Alsacian culture!
Le Panda de Chine in Clermont-Ferrand by Justine
Le Panda de Chine is
a popular restaurant in Clermont-Ferrand with no pretentions.
The food is good and tasty. We can eat for a reasonable price. If you
go there on a Saturday there is a Kareoke. The atmosphere is quiet
and very friendly. There is a fabulous buffet with a large choice of
dishes. You can drink Chinese wine for a reasonable price. The
service is
fast because you
can help yourself or
you can order
a menu.
L'Ecailler in Oléron by Ambre
L'Ecaillier is a
restaurant in Oléron. It is in a splendid room, with many beautiful
seascapes hung on the walls. The different parts are on several
levels.
When you eat there in the
evening, there are candles on the table, with a peaceful and calm
atmosphere.
The dishes are typical of
the region and are very refined and tasty. You can sample a great
seafood platter. You can also choose the lobster that you will eat!
The waiters are very kind
and nice, there is a good, well organized, kitchen team.
It is recommended you
book a table as there is a big demand.

The Antre 2 in Riom by Gauthier
The Antre 2 is
a nice little restaurant located at n° 15 Marthuret Street in
Riom, near the Marthuret church. When you come in, the manager comes
with a wide smile to salute you and asks: “How many people for
lunch?” The dining room is quite large with nice decoration. It’s
a very comfortable place. The food is very good quality. Is it a
luxury restaurant ? No, it’s not, but to have a restaurant like
this one in Riom is a good thing. The tables are well set. The
cutlery is placed in an old jar. There is a piece of slate stone
under the plate and the colors are fashionable.
I’m not a great fan of meat so when I come to this restaurant I have a salad with corn, traditional ham, pine kernels, poached eggs, small tomatoes, cheese and foie gras. For dessert I usually have an apple pie.
I’m not a great fan of meat so when I come to this restaurant I have a salad with corn, traditional ham, pine kernels, poached eggs, small tomatoes, cheese and foie gras. For dessert I usually have an apple pie.
I always enjoy going to
this restaurant but its only problem is that the service is quite
slow.
However, I recommend you try it!

Le Refuge du Laisonnay in Champagny-en-Vanoise by Clémence
Le Refuge du Laisonnay
is a Savoyard restaurant.
The candlelight ambiance is pleasant. Food is of high quality. The
waitress is nice and smiles readily. The place is wonderful. The
refuge is located in the mountains, near a waterfall. The decoration
is made up of articles from the mountains. Unfortunately, the waiting
time is a little long. The quantity is correct and the value is
reasonable. If you want to have a
good time with your friends or your lover, then go to eat there! My
mark: 17.5 out of 20.
The 1513 in Clermont-Ferrand by Lucile
The 1513 is a
great Medieval-style pancake house in Clermont-Ferrand near the
Cathedral. It's worth 17 out of 20 I would say. The setting is very
pleasant and welcoming. The dining rooms are quite dark but candlelight adds to the atmosphere. The food is good and
very substantial. You can savour salty and sweet pancakes.
L'Odevie in Clermont-Ferrand by Alexandre
Many people go to
L’Odevie because it has a very good reputation...
It is located in the town
center of Clermont-Ferrand. The exterior is beautiful. There is a
fountain, the noise of the water is very pleasant and the colors are
cheerful. The interior is sublimely decorated and cosy. The welcome is
cordial and the waiters quick.
Each plate is nicely
presented. The dishes are typically Auvergnat. The very good beef is
Saler, a local breed. The menus are varied, the food is succulent.
The only criticism is
that L’Odevie is quite expensive. However, you will not
regret inviting your friends there, it's worth every centime!

Les 4 sergents in La Rochelle by Loïc
This calm and pleasant
restaurant is housed in an early 19th century building. The interior
decoration is modern which makes for a wonderful contrast. La
Rochelle harbour can be seen from the restaurant. The noise level is reasonable. Chairs are very
comfortable. The tables are nicely decorated with bunches of flowers
in the middle, and all are impeccably clean.
The waiters are pleasant
and attentive. One does not have to wait too long to be served.
What about the courses?
They are well presented with lots of colour, and there are never too
many things on the plate. The food is simply delicious. All the
products are fresh and I particularly recommend the various meats.
The quantity is just right, there is no waste.
The wines are low priced
but high quality, the water fresh, and the bread hot and crispy.
One doesn't feel
cheated on the prices.
All in all, a top class
restaurant!
Pousse-Pousse in Clermont-Ferrand by Alexane

La Bodega in Port Leucate by Alex
Last
summer, I went with my family to La Bodega, a nice restaurant in Port
Leucate, a village in the Languedoc-Roussillon. We were warmly
welcomed by the staff. We had a comfortable table sheltered from the
wind with a view of the port. The table was well decorated. There was
a calm holiday atmosphere.
La
Bodega specializes in pasta, so we chose pasta and a plate of cooked
pork meats. It was delicious and filling. We very much appreciated
this restaurant and I recommend it to all the fans of Italian
cooking!

La Rotonde in Vichy by Anaïs
The first time I went to
La Rotonde by the Allier river was in December, for Christmas. I
was dumbstruck by the imposing modern architecture. But I was disappointed
when I saw there was no restaurant carpark. We had to walk ten
minutes in the cold, which is not good especially for old people.
The view on the river
illuminated by the sun was wonderful.
The tables were very
elegantly laid out, the cutlery sparkling clean.
The welcome and the
service were worthy of a very good restaurant.
The menu was varied and
all the dishes were extremely enticing, but I prefered to choose from
the specialities menu.
The water was delicious.
As a main starter, I
chose cream of aspargus with mushroom sauce. It was a little too
exotic for my taste.
The waiter, with lots of
good humour, then brought me a snail-filled puff pastry with parsley
and garlic butter. It was excellent.
The service was quick
which is always a plus.
The main course was foie
gras with chopped crunchy vegetables and a balsamic vinegar sauce. It was a real delight !
A crisp chocolate cake
with a red fruit sorbet was the delicious dessert.
All the dishes were wonderful. This restaurant scores
four out of five stars!
